Market Crash: Investors lose ₹6 lakh crore as Sensex plummets 941 points

The Nifty shed 309 points (1.27%) to close at 23,995 while the Sensex was down 941 points (1.18%) to close at 78,782

It was a black Monday as investors lost ₹6 lakh crore in a single day. The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms fell to nearly ₹442 lakh crore from ₹448 lakh crore in the previous session. The Nifty shed 309 points (1.27%) to close at 23,995 while the Sensex was down 941 points (1.18%) to close at 78,782. All sectors ended in red. Nifty Realty, Oil & Gas and Media fell over 2%. Nifty Bank, Auto, Financial Services, FMCG, Metal, Private Bank and Consumer Durables fell 1. Nifty made an intraday low of 23,816 before recovering 182 points. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell 1.31 per cent and 1.65 per cent, respectively.

The US elections, FED policy and China’s policy announcement are lined up for this weak and are the likely causes for today’s fall.

Even the broader market was weak as 1878 shares declined and only 473 ended in green in the NSE.

In the Nifty, Hero Motocorp was the top loser as it fell 4.27% followed by Grasim which ended 4.01% down. Mahindra and Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, Cipla and SBI were the top gainers.

The weak market also impacted the listing of Afrcons Infrastructure which listed at a discount of 7.99%. It managed to recover and end 2.42% up at 474. It’s issue price was 463.

Market experts believe that Nifty will continue to remain weak until it closes above 24500. On the downside, its next crucial support is 23750. If it breaks that, we can see 23,500 levels too. Experts also feel we can expect a lot more volitility in this week.
