Harry Brook made the second-fastest triple ton in the history of Test cricket. He took 310 balls to reach 300. He’s only behind Virender Sehwag who took 278 balls to score 300 runs against South Africa in Chennai.
He took 118 balls for his first 100 runs and 127 for the next 100. He took only 65 balls to go from 200 to 300. His 317 is the fifth-highest individual score for England in Tests. Brook became the fifth player to score a triple century batting at #5 or below.
Joe Root wasn’t far behind as he scored 262 runs. Brook and Root had a partnership of 454. It is the fourth-highest partnership for any wicket in Tests and the highest for England. Thanks to their contributions, England declared their innings at 823/7. It’s the fourth highest total in Test cricket, the highest being 952/6 made by Sri Lanka against India in 1997. The second (903/7d) and third (849) highest test totals were also made by England.
Pakistan made 556 in their first innings and were 152/6 in their second. They trail England by 115 runs at the end of Day 4 and are staring at an innings defeat with just 4 wickets remaining.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s legspinner Abrar Ahmed is being treated in a hospital in Multan after being taken ill. He had bowled 31 overs on day three against England, but did not take the field on day 4. He had complained of a high fever and body aches on the morning of the fourth day. According to a PCB statement, he had undergone a number of tests, and a further update would be issued after the test results.
