T20 WC 2024: Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan help Pakistan beat Canada in must-win game

Batting first, Canada made 106/7 in their 20 overs. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan made 53.

Pakistan registered their first win in the T20 World Cup 2024 by beating Canada by 7 wickets. They had earlier lost to USA and India. Batting first, Canada made 106/7 in their 20 overs. Aaron Johnson was the top scorer for Canada with 52 runs.

Mohammad Amir was the player of the match for his 2 for 13. Mohammad Rizwan scored 53 as Pakistan reached the target in the 18th over with 15 balls to spare. With this win, Pakistan still have a chance to qualify for the super-8s. They are 3rd in Group A behind India and USA.

After the match Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said, “Good for us, we need this win. We started well with the bowling, in the first six overs we know we had to be up to the mark. (On winning quicker to go level with USA's NRR) It was in our mind, to win before 14 overs but the pitch made it difficult. (On getting angry when getting out) Because I'm out with the same shot twice (against India)! This is my shot but sometimes you need success. I'll try my best.”

Plater of the match, Mohammad Rizwan said, “As a bowler you have to adopt the conditions, what the conditions are demanding. My role is very clear, what I'm going to do with the new ball and at the death. That's why I'm getting that success. [On Pakistan getting off the mark] That was a very important win. One more, who knows…”

Pakistan will next play Ireland on Sunday in a do-or-die contest.
