Blind Hyderabad couple lives with deceased son's body for 4 days

In a shocking and sad case, an elderly, visually challenged couple lived with the body of their son for 4 days without knowing that he was dead. The case came to light when their neighbours called the police on Monday after complaining of foul smell. Had the neighbours not called the police, the blind couple might have stayed with the body for even more days.

According to reports, Kaluva Ramana, a retired government employee lived with his wife Shantikumari in a rented apartment with their younger son, Pramod aged 30. He had apparently been deserted by his wife, who took both their daughters with her. Pramod was reportedly an alcoholic.

The station head officer of Nagole police station, Surya Nayak, said Ramana and Shantikumari were both over 60 years old and tried calling out to Pramod for food and water, but did not get any response. He added that their voices were feeble and that is probably why their neighbours could also not hear them. Meanwhile, Pramod allegedly died in his sleep. His body has been transported to a state-run hospital for a post-mortem examination.
