DD News deletes article and tweet on Delhi-NCR’s ‘very poor’ AQI post Diwali fireworks

Every year, during Diwali, the pollution levels go out of control. It is followed by blame games and the government trying to ‘downplay’ the ill effects. This year is no different. DD News had posted an article on the ‘very poor’ AQI in Delhi-NCR post Diwali fireworks. However, the article was soon deleted and so was its tweet on X.

Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared the information on X along with a screenshot of the tweet posted by DD News.

The tweet got several reactions, many being critical of the government and Delhi’s pollution.

According to reports, the surge of toxic smoke, laden with pollutants and heavy metals, caused the city’s average hourly PM2.5 levels to touch 675 micrograms/cubic metre at midnight, the highest since 2021 for Diwali night, when it was 728.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday claimed that there has been no major negative impact on the air quality of the city despite the use of firecrackers during Diwali a day earlier.

In fact, he accused AAP leader like Saurabh Bharadwaj of blaming firecrackers for the spike in pollution, alleging that they just spread confusion among the public.
