Priyanka Gandhi to make her poll debut from Wayanad; says ‘Not nervous’

Since 2019, many were anticipating Priyanka Gandhi’s poll debut. She will be debuting from Kerala’s Wayanad

The Congress party announced today that Priyanka Gandhi will make her electoral debut from Wayanad, which is considered to be a safe seat for the Congress. Rahul Gandhi will be retaining Raebareli.

At a press conference, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi has won from two seats. As per the law, he has to vacate one seat. Tomorrow is the last date (to vacate). That’s why today we sat and decided Rahul Gandhi should retain his Raebareli seat because it has a long relationship with him. Raebareli has a close link with his family and for generations, Gandhi family had been fighting from Raebareli. That’s why people of Raebareli as well as the party feels that it would be better if he retains Raebareli seat,” said Kharge.

Priyanka stated she was “not nervous” and pledged to give her “best” to Wayanad. She said, “I am very happy to represent the people of Wayanad and will ensure they don't feel Rahul's absence. I will work hard to make everyone happy.”

She went on to add, “I have a very old relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi and it cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Rae Bareli. We will both be present in Rae Bareli and Wayanad.”

According to reports, Rahul and Priyanka were supposed to contest from Amethi and Raebareli. However, KL Sharma fought from Amethi and won against BJP's former Union minister Smriti Irani by 1.6 lakh votes.

Since 2019, many were anticipating Priyanka’s poll debut.
